When Does Flu Season Begin and When Will it Peak?

Writer's picture: Rawls Law GroupRawls Law Group

Flu season in the United States is already in full swing. According to the CDC, flu season runs from October through May, and peaks in February. One of the main reasons for this of course is that these are typically the months when most of us are spending more and more time inside and because , according to research, the flu virus is transmitted better when it’s colder.

Some years are worse than others for outbreaks of the flu and the severity varies from one year to another. The 2017-2018 flu season was so severe that the CDC estimates that approximately 79,000 people suffered flu-related deaths in the United States last flu season. By comparison, there were only about 12,000 flu-related deaths during the 2011-2012 flu season.
